Description
This is an antique Japanese scroll (kakejiku
) with a hand
painted
design of one of the eight Chinese Buddhist Gods of luck playing a guzheng (a type of stringed instrument). He has with him a young apprentice making chrysanthemum tea.
The writing on the lower right side says that is was made by a 78 year old man and the name of the artist, Fumisumi (hermit).
This scroll is approximately 57" long by 17" wide (145 x 43 cm). The actual artwork is 31" high by 10" wide (79 x 25 cm). Having been rolled up and stored for over 100 years, with exception of some minor signs of age (see enlarged pictures), it remains in
good condition
