Description
Bryston 4b, recapped and tested.Power supply electrolytics replaced with higher ufd and higher voltage.
Bypass capacitors added to the bridge rectifiers per later Bryston models
Earth ground separated from the signal ground per later Bryston models
Wires from bridge to caps was too small a gauge, upgraded to match transformer wire gauge
Changed corroded rca connectors to gold plated
Replaced all "burnt" resistors ( a common problem on older Brystons ) with higher wattage ratings
Checked all driver and output transistors. Replaced the 9 that were outside spec. I used newer Motorola transistors.
Replaced the one voltage gain transistor that someone had used an equivilant when the actual is readily available
Replaced all electrolytics on the amplifier boards
Replaced the tantulums with polypropylene ( I hate tantulums )
Replaced the bias potentiometers with multi turn cermets
Ran both channels at aprox 100 watts on a sine wave sweep from 20hz to 20khz into my 300 watt load resistor for 30 minutes. This is a much harder test than just playing music. After the tests the resistor was almost too hot to touch. The heat sinks were warm bordering on hot.
After all this work I decided to go balanced and replaced the 4b with a 4b sst that you can see in the last picture. I will deliver anywhere in the Pacific North West from the border to Seattle.
Packaging ( if needed ) will be extra cardboard, fill with bubble wrap and nylon tape the outside of the box.
