    Description

Eugene Clauss Old Paris French Hand Painted Cherubin Figurine Circa 1868 - 1887
Nice rare late 19th century French porcelain figurine of Cherubin / Cherubino from the play/opera The Marriage of Figaro. He is hand painted with a yellow doublet with gold flowers and trim. With lace at the neckline and cuffs. He has white pants with orange, pink, and blue flowers and white lace at the bottom. He has long blonde hair and is wearing a maroon cape with sea green lining and gold gilt trim. With gold gilt highlights to the base. Marked on the bottom with an underglaze blue crossed swords mark with an E and a C. This mark was used by Eugene Marx Claus (pre Achille Bloch/Bourdois & Bloch) in Paris between 1868 and 1887.
Has loss to the lace at his neck and wrists. There were at one time encrusted flowers in front of his feet on the base that are gone, this looks to have been done in manufacture as the paint on the base goes over these spots. No chips or cracks. He has all his fingers.
Measures approximately 3 inches wide x 7 1/8 inches tall.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
