    Description

This scroll was presented to my father in Japan in the late 1940's.  He was in the US Army occupation of Japan
just after WWII.  After Japanese style courtship, he became engaged to a young Japanese woman. Just before his deployment back to the states, his family presented the Tiger Scroll to him, and everything it represented.
My father loved the country, language, customs, and tradition.  He had every intention of returning to marry, but life circumstances prevented it.  He had the scroll appraised for 00 in the 1960's.  We are not sure why, maybe at our mothers urging, since she knew the story.  He was not going to part with it, and cherished it until his passing.
    That's what I know.
It is signed by the artist.  My father said his fiancé's grandfather painted it specifically for him.  It is a beautiful piece of Japanese art, and has held up extremely well.  It has a few water spots on the back, not on the front.
3 small smudges are toward the bottom front. The mounting is very much intact.  The colors are vibrant.
The scroll measures 79" tall, 22" wide.   The Tiger portion measures 45" tall, 16" wide.
It has 2 tie straps, and a woven string for mounting.
    Mid 20th century.
