PS Audio Gain Cell Phono Preamplifier (GCPH)
Capable of both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges.
This model is 2 generations old. Current gen is the Stellar Phono Preamp (MSRP 00). Previously to that was the PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter which is similar to this phono stage minus upgrades, the ability to convert records to digital files and several more features and higher price (MSRP95).
This model launched in 2006f with an MSRP of ,000. Has a hefty separated toroidal transformer keeping line noise at a minimum.
What the Gain Cell allows is the ability for the Phono Stage to be a dedicated pre-amp for those who ONLY listen to vinyl. Plug this in directly to a power amp and music is up an running.
Even better, this Phono Pre Amp comes with a remote, making volume adjustment on the fly possible when configured as a dedicated pre-amp.
Front toggles allow for Mono and polarity switching on the fly.
If using as a discrete separate phono stage, leave volume dial at 50-65% to prevent boosted noise levels and use the back controls as the primary gain and frequency control.
Weighs in at 15 pounds and 20lbs fully boxed.
