ROTEL 'MICHI' RHQ-10 MC/MM PHONO PREAMP.
I've only seen one other of these for sale in the last 25 years and it was pretty banged up. This unit is NIB
For full disclosure there is a small (pen head size) blem on one side of the factory finish (see pics). I believe this is a factory blem and not damage. Otherwise the unit looks as new including no visible wear to the WBT RCAs.
Due to the significant time of non-use this unit it was carefully opened with the proper #8 Torx tool and thoroughly inspected. I then carefully brought the unit up to power on a Variac @ a rate of 10v per hour to make sure the caps are reformed and in perfect condition. I count over 52 original Black Gate capacitors used in this unit.
The cost in Black Gates alone would be in the $$ HUNDREDS of dollars!
During inspection all setting were found to be in their original factory positions as they should be.
I ran the unit for 24hrs to insure proper operation. The unit is perfect and incredibly musical!
Some very special features in this unit are:
It has selectable (fixed and variable) output/s this can be the heart of a dedicated vinyl setup with no other preamp needed in the signal path.
Vishay VS
foil resistors
for input and loading. Short of a Z-foil this are the best you will find.
Every single power cap in this unit is a
Black Gate
all 52 of them!
The chassis is made from aluminum and thus full non-magnetic
MM & MC with adjustable gain/loading resistors and capacitance
The PCB of the
RHQ-10
is made of high-grade fiberglass with 0,1% and 0,01% tolerance metal film Vishay resistors in the signal paths, eq and NFB loop
The output stage is a single-ended fully complementary push-pull circuit in Class A. Discrete components throughout.
NO OPAMPS!
Two outputs! :
Fixed 1
is a standard fixed output connection to a passive controller or preamplifier which bypasses the internal volume control. Fixed 2 is a Variable output for going directly into a power amplifier.
Power-supply is done by a (sizeable) low-leakage toroidal transformer ; dual-mono regulations throughout, copper bus bars, liberal heat-sinking, sealed output relays, non-magnetic aluminum chassis and Teflon-insulated WBT terminals.
MADE IN JAPAN!
This is Class A reference phono stage in both operation and sound!
