SONY TA-E9000ES Pre-Amp/AV Control Amplifier with Remote for Parts or Repair

This SONY TA-E9000ES is being sold as-is for parts or repair, no returns.
The unit is cosmetically excellent and includes the original box, manuals and remote control.
Now I'll tell you about the problems.  A friend of mine bought this preamp brand new in December 1998 for 29.  Eventually it developed the common problem of having a blank display and no sound.  It sat unused until now, when he asked me to try to fix it.  This problem and the suggested fix are described in SONY service bulletin 628.  I added a 100pF cap in parallel with R153, replaced R124 with a 1 watt equivalent, and replaced the blown Q108 transistor.  This fixed the problem for a day or so, then Q108 blew again.  Replacing Q108 again would work for a while then fail.  Photos of the repair areas are included for your entertainment.
The remote control shows the problems described in SONY service bulletin HIFI1-99-006R1, which includes short battery life and a dim backlight.  I've made no attempt to repair it.
