Japanese scroll of a Daruma, a Buddhist monk who started Zen
Buddhism
. It's drawn on paper with a silk border. It was brought
from Kyoto, Japan. The solid paulownia wood storage box comes with it. One end has a broken slat. The scrolls weighted ends are ox bone.
This was painted by the artist with sumi ink and a brush. There is no room for mistakes using sumi ink. Only the skill of the artist.
It's 81 x 26 3/4 inches (266 x 68 cm)
The painting itself, The "Honshi" is 55 x 21 inches (140 x 53cm)
